Speaker:Mitchell Catling, Lab Leader Hydromet, Leaching, BASF

Overview:

LixTRATM is a low-foaming, oligomeric wetting aid that was specifically designed for compatibility with downstream processes such as SX-EW. There is a concept in hydrogeology of mobile versus immobile regions of soil (or ore), where the proximity of grains to each other will dictate where flow can and cannot go. This is primarily controlled by surface tension and viscosity.  With leach solutions, there will be a set pore throat size that, below this size, raffinate will not be able to penetrate/flow through the space to leach metal.  Reducing the surface tension allows you to gain access to smaller pore throats and more metal. This has resulted in an increase in the kinetic rate of metal recovery from target ores from across the globe. This presentation will provide an overview of the technology and some case studies from laboratory to field scale, demonstrating the efficacy of the reagent.
