- JUNE DINNER MEETING

Please note that this meeting and our meetings moving forward will be in-person only. Our Teams meetings were born out of necessity during the COVID pandemic and then transitioned to hybrid meetings as our memberships adjusted to having in-person meetings again. While many still enjoy our Teams option, this option provides more work for our host, us, and can sometimes lead to coordination issues as we try and force the posted Teams schedule onto the dynamic nature of our meetings . We believe that attending our meetings in person are a great networking and learning opportunity and we encourage you to join us. That being said...

Join us for our next SME Tucson Dinner Meeting! Make sure to select your meal when making your reservation. Reservation deadline has been extended to June 14th at 5pm!

Program:
Pat Risner, President - Hermosa Project at South32, will provide an update on construction, permitting, and market development for the zinc-manganese-silver-lead Hermosa Project located in Santa Cruz County. Other discussion topics include South32's local workforce development plans, its focus on sustainability, and next steps as the project continues to develop.

Speaker: Pat Risner, President, Hermosa Project at South32

With over 30 years of experience in mining, Pat Risner is an industry expert in complex mine project development. He has held executive roles across the United States and Australia including Chief Health Safety Environmental Officer for BHP where he had accountability for the company’s global sustainability performance and President of BHP’s US coal business. In addition to mining project development and operations, Pat has a wealth of knowledge in sustainability, long-term economic development through mining, communities and tribal relations. He holds a degree in Mining Engineering from Missouri University of Science and Technology.

In 2019, Pat became President of South32’s Hermosa Project in Southern Arizona, leading the only advanced mine development project in the United States as of 2023 that could produce two federally designated critical minerals—manganese and zinc—both of which are essential minerals for powering the nation’s clean energy future. South32 aspires for the Hermosa Project to set a new standard for sustainable mining, strengthen the domestic supply chain of critical minerals, grow the local economy, and improve lives in Santa Cruz County and the surrounding community.
